About the awarding organization
The Hungarian Green Building Council (HuGBC) is Hungary’s leading professional body for sustainable architecture and construction, and a member of the international World Green Building Council (WorldGBC) network. The council connects architects, engineers, developers, investors, manufacturers, and universities, all working together toward the shared goal of a carbon-neutral built environment in hungary.
The Zero Carbon Award, introduced by HuGBC, is one of the country’s most respected sustainability recognitions. It highlights projects that demonstrate measurable progress toward whole-life carbon neutrality, while also serving as scalable, innovative examples for the building industry.
The selection process
The Zero Carbon Awards are decided by an expert jury of sustainability professionals, architects, engineers, and real estate leaders. Projects are evaluated according to strict criteria, including:
- Whole-life carbon performance – reductions across embodied and operational carbon
- Innovation – novel materials, technologies, and design approaches
- Impact – contribution to broader climate goals and replicability in the market
The competition attracts entries from across the Hungarian construction and real estate industry, representing both new builds and renovations. The 2025 awards were presented at the Green Future Conference during the Construma expo, Hungary’s largest construction trade fair.
Our award and its significance
In 2025, Equinox received the HuGBC Zero Carbon Award in the New build category for our Julia house, the first residential building in Hungary designed for life-cycle carbon neutrality.
For us, this award is a milestone:
- It validates the Equinox-system™ as a practical framework for carbon-neutral housing
- It highlights Julia as a pioneering demonstration project of circular design and renewable energy integration
- It strengthens our mission to scale carbon-neutral and affordable housing solutions across Hungary and beyond
